FACTORIO MEGABASE TUTORIAL & THEORY
This series will focus on how to start, build, and complete a Megabase in Factorio. The tips, tricks, builds, guides and theory in this series should help you build your own Megabase for the first time.
Episode 3 focuses on how to actually begin transition / switching to a Megabase from your Starter Base, Mass Module Production and some Rail / Train System Designs and Sizes. This is a question I get a lot and something that a lot of people struggle with, including more experienced players. It can be very daunting to move from your first factory into actually building your Megabase.
I have found that the easiest method is to start planning and building your Megabase in a separate part of the map, in an entirely different area from your starter base. Trying to actually turn your starter base into a Megabase is very difficult in most situations and will cause more headaches than it’s worth in my experience.
Next you will likely need to produce a large amount of Modules and Beacons! Creating a small factory that is dedicated to producing Modules and perhaps a few other things will help you get those expensive items built much easier and quicker. You can also have your starter base work on some science and/or help build other items you’ll need for a huge base, such as Assembling Machines, Inserters, Robots / Belts etc.
Lastly, making some general decisions on the type of rail / train network you’ll be using will help a lot in the long run. Will you use a 2 lane rail system, or 4 lane system? Single headed trains which need loops in the network or double headed trains that don’t? Don’t forget to space out your builds and junctions a lot too! We will cover spacing more in-depth when we go over specific build designs and placement.
Hope you enjoy the video and series and find it helpful! I appreciate constructive feedback so I can improve with each episode! If you did enjoy, please consider liking the video and subscribing.

Factorio is a game in which you build and maintain factories.
You will be mining resources, researching technologies, building infrastructure, automating production and fighting enemies. Use your imagination to design your factory, combine simple elements into ingenious structures, apply management skills to keep it working and finally protect it from the creatures who don’t really like you.
Join forces with other players in cooperative Multiplayer, create huge factories, collaborate and delegate tasks between you and your friends. Add mods to increase your enjoyment, from small tweak and helper mods to complete game overhauls, Factorio’s ground-up Modding support has allowed content creators from around the world to design interesting and innovative features. While the core gameplay is in the form of the freeplay scenario, there are a range of interesting challenges in the form of the Scenario pack, available as free DLC. If you don’t find any maps or scenarios you enjoy, you can create your own with the in-game Map Editor, place down entities, enemies, and terrain in any way you like, and even add your own custom script to make for interesting gameplay.
