To my surprise, I get a good number of clients (both new businesses starting out and well-established businesses) that don’t have a decent website.
Sometimes they might not have a good website and other times they might not have any website at all.
So if you fit into any of those boxes, here’s a quick step by step tutorial to build your own website (DIY).
Step 1: Register a domain name
A domain name is what someone will type into their web browser to go to your website.
Now the name isn’t the MOST important thing in the world, so try not to spend too long on this step.
But that being said, when picking a domain name…
1 – Try to have a .com if possible. It’s easier to remember and just looks better and more trust worthy. Someone is more likely to trust a website on a .com domain vs a .info domain, even though technically speaking it doesn’t really matter. But .com is still perceived as the best and most well known type of domain.
2 – Try to avoid hyphens, since it’s hard for people to remember to use it
3 – Try to keep it as short as possible and easy to remember.
Oh and if you can include some keywords in your domain name that are descriptive about what it is you do, that helps too, but isn’t absolutely necessary.
There are hundreds of places you can go to buy a domain name. I personally use eNom, but many clients use GoDaddy or Namecheap.
Step 2: Find a website builder and web host
Once you have a domain name, you still need to actually build the website and have somewhere to host it.
Now you have a few options here…
Option 1: You can hire a web design / development company
If you want the BEST looking website, tailored to your exact needs and specifications without you having to actually do anything… Then you’re going to need to hire a web design & development company to do that for you.
You can expect to pay anywhere from $1,000 to $50,000 or more depending on the quality of the web design company, their experience and complexity of the website.
For example, if you want a simple brochure style website with a blog, it will be on the lower end of that budget. If you want a more advanced website with additional features like maybe a membership portal, Ecommerce features, etc… You can expect to pay a bit more.
Option 2: You go with a do-it-yourself website builder
There are thousands of do it yourself website builders these days.
The one I personally use most often and recommend to clients is called Rocketspark.
Because I refer a lot of clients to Rocketspark, I can get you hooked up with a 60-day free trial if you click here: https://www.skylinesocial.com/rocketspark
Step 3: Add content to your website
The next step is to start building out the pages and adding content / images to your new business website.
Step 4: Optimize your website for search engines
The next step is to make sure you’ve optimized your website for search engines by creating pages and blog content specifically about things that people are likely to type in Google to find your services.
Step 5: Optimize your website to win more leads and clients
This is the BIGGEST thing that people do NOT do and it’s why so many people have websites and don’t get any business from it.
Most people that visit your website are not going to convert. They’re going to leave.
So you need a way to capture the people who visit your websites contact info so you can keep following up with them, build up a relationship with them over time and then get them to convert into clients when the time is right for them.
And one of the best ways you can do this is by sending people who visit your website to your marketing and sales funnel.
Now because of time I can’t go through in detail everything you need to do create this funnel, but if you want to learn more about how to do this step, then check out my free masterclass training which goes through step by step how to do this in more detail by going here: http://salesappointmentsmasterclass.com
